Why you should add video to your website

If there is one thing we can tell you about business, it’s that it’s competitive. Everybody is looking for a leg up on their competition, and every bit of an advantage can make the difference between success and failure for your business. One of the best things you can do to set yourself apart from your competition is to include videos on your website. It  doesn’t matter if it’s just a commercial telling your customers who you are, or a video of what services you can offer them. A study done by the Online Publishers Association found that 80% of internet users will recall watching a video ad on a website they visit in the past 30 days. 26% of those viewers looked for more information about the material covered in the video, and 12% made purchases of the product mentioned in the ad. So, let’s think about this for a second, a video can increase product memory, it can make your viewers interested in finding out more information about your business, and you can see an increase in sales as a result. Google also includes “dwell time” in it’s rankings, which means how long people stay on your site. The longer the dwell time, the higher your ranking on google because Google interprets that your site must have quality content if people are sticking around for such a long time.

Go ahead and go online, and see what your competitors are up to on their websites. How many of them have videos up on their sites? How many don’t? When you visit their sites, which ones made more of a lasting impression with you if you were a customer? I can almost guarantee that it was the sites that included video somewhere on their website. Don’t think that video only gives you some benefits to your sales, and your page rankings though. Videos can also help your clients get a better understanding of your business by showing them your brand’s personality. I could write all day about the benefits of using video, but why don’t you go out and just look at some of your favorite websites, look at how many use video, and think about if video would help your site really stand out.
